We Did It!

Published on 06/05/21

Between us we walked, ran, cycled and swam around the world in 80 days!

81 days ago, on the eve of February half term the PTFA set student and staff at Hope Valley College a challenge - to collectively travel around the world in 80 days or less, under their own steam. Over the past 11 and a bit weeks steps, miles and km have been logged by 84 individual students and 24 staff, as well as numerous tutor group walks on school grounds. It was touch and go whether they would make it, but last night at 10pm, with just two hours to go, they not only crossed the virtual finish line, but overshot it by nearly 1,000km. The final tally is 41,026km. The target distance was 40,075km.

As well as keeping student and staff active and encouraging them to exercise more the project has also been raising funds in lieu of the Hope Valley Adventure Film Festival which couldn't happen this year due to Covid. So far £2,225 has been raised to help refurbish the school sports hall and also for Cardiac Risk In The Young (CRY). Details and a donation link can be found here.

Well done Hope Valley College!
