Principal's update 26 January 2024

Published on 26/01/24

Dear Parents and Carers

Students in Year 10 have completed their first series of mock exams this week, whilst practical GCSE examinations for some of our Y11 students have also taken place. Our trusty team of invigilators were on hand to make sure all exams ran smoothly.

Thank you to parents and carers of Y9 students who came along to our Options Evening on Thursday – we hope you found the event useful. Options Forms will be sent to students in the next few weeks and should be submitted by 1 March.

Periodically we ask you to update any personal information for yourselves and your young person on Arbor, our new MIS system. Could we please ask that you check the information we currently have for your young person’s transportation method to and from school. Accurate transport information helps us enormously in the event of a school closure. Thank you.

What’s going on in school:

  • On Wednesday, 19 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 competed in the qualifying round of the Inter-schools Bouldering Competition at the Mini-Works in Sheffield. Each student had to tackle 15 boulder problems (climbs without ropes, with a crash mat below). The top 6 competitors will go through to the final to be held in the Spring. A great experience and a fantastic effort from all involved. Thanks to Mr Fitton, Miss Townend and Mrs Oldfield for supervising the trip.

  • Year 8 took part in our interhouse rowing competition this week. Mam Tor were the champions for both boys’ and girls’ teams, whilst Win Hill won the mixed team event. There was a great atmosphere in the hall! Well done to all involved.
  • On Saturday 20 January, 7 talented Hope Valley students represented the High Peak in the Derbyshire Country Cross Country Trials held at Motorways Stadium in Derby. Their commitment, resilience and determination to perform to their best ability was inspirational - and also reflected their results! Anwen Y9 came 8th in the Junior Girls race, and has been selected for the English Schools Cross Country squad! Tommy Y7 came 11th out of 60 runners - an incredible achievement given he was also under the weather. We also want to congratulate Jack Y11 for his 13th position, and excellent running from Thomas Y7, James Y9, Liv Y10 and Isaac Y11. Very well done, we are really proud of your achievements.

These will run until Thursday 1 February with the written mock exams starting on Monday 5 February.  The mock timetable can be accessed via the link below.  Students will be handed their statement of entry nearer the time.
