Details of fell local racing club for HVC students

Details of fell racing and cross-country running opportunities for HVC students below:

Hope Valley Hurricanes a running club operating in the Hope Valley for junior runners aged 8 – 16 years. They have a number of volunteer run leaders who run, race and/or orienteer and who hope to introduce young runners to their sport. They aim to encourage juniors to enjoy exercising, participate in fell running, orienteering etc., and generally make the most of our wonderful outdoor surroundings.

Sessions take place on Thursday evenings during school term times from 6 pm to 7 pm. They usually meet on the playing field at Hope Sports Ground, though from time to time we meet at an “away” venue. Details are sent out in advance by email.

To ensure the sessions are enjoyable for all, there is a HVH runner's code of conduct. All adults are volunteers who have self-declared and registered, mostly parents.

As everyone will be running outside, please come with appropriate clothing for the weather. Note that they have only a very limited number of spares (head torches, high-viz vests and waterproofs), so please make sure you bring appropriate kit with you, particularly if it is cold and / or wet.

Long-sleeved top (+ thermal base layer for cold conditions), long running trousers

Wet weather gear if chance of rain – waterproof jacket (named)

Hat and gloves (important if cold / wet)

Footwear for off road running / on the playing fields

High-viz gilet

Head torch

Change of clothing / warm top / bottoms for afterwards – particularly if wet
