Having trialled a Bike Bus to Hope Valley College at the end of the summer term a group of students and parents are organising a ride to and from school on Tuesday 22nd September to mark World No Car Day.

A Bike Bus is not an actual bus. It’s a moving virtual ‘bus’ made up of bike travelling from A to B, in this case from Grindleford to Hope Valley College.

We encourage as many students of HVC and their parents to join us. If you can't join, or would prefer not to join the 'bus', but are happy to cycle or walk to school anyway then that'd be great. The fewer vehicles on the road that day the better.

To incentivise students to cycle to school the PTFA are working with Hope-based bike shop 18 Bikes to run a prize draw at the end of the school year for a premium bike (every mile cycled to school would generate 1 entry into the draw; 100 x 1 mile journeys would give 100 entries, 10 X 5 mile journeys would give 50 entries). The scheme will start next Tuesday. All journeys will need to be registered daily with Mr Fitton.

Everybody taking part in the Bike Bus to HVC does so at their own risk. Helmets and high viz are advised, but not mandatory. There will be an adult at the front of the bus, at the rear of the bus, and on the outside of the bus. More adults joining in will mean more at the front, rear and outside, encouraging the students to keep close together. At the rear of the bus will be a bike trailer with a banner explaining to motorists what is happening, and asking them to overtake ONLY when safe to do so.

The Bike Bus is part of a wider Safer Roads, Greener Villages Campaign by Hope Valley Climate Action. It has the backing of Hope Valley College. Although it has this backing, it is stressed that everybody takes part at their own risk.

7 Miles - from Grindleford to Hope Valley College along the main road.

We will meet at the Pavilion in Grindleford at 07:45, leaving at 08:00am

Expected arrival time at Sicklehome (Bamford junction): 08:25

Expected arrival time at The Traveller’s Rest (Bradwell junction): 08:35

Expected arrival time at Hope Valley College: 08:45

Afternoon:

Leave school at 15.40

Expected arrival time at The Traveller's Rest (Bradwell junction): 15:50

Once it’s stared, the bus won’t stop except at junctions and traffic lights, it will be the responsibility of those joining the bus to tag on.
