Microsoft Student Advantage
Office 365 Pro Plus entitles Hope Valley College students/staff to download local copies of the full version of Microsoft Office including familiar Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Lync and Publisher on up to 5 personal devices.
Office 365 Pro Plus can be downloaded through your college email account. To access this benefit use your college email login details at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/education/products/office
The following products are included with the Office 365 ProPlus subscription:
- Office 365 ProPlus for PC or Mac (Office 2019 base applications),
- Office Mobile for iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad / Office Mobile for Android.

How to connect to the college Wi-Fi
For further steps required to connect mobile devices, please see the section below. Follow the next steps to connect your Windows/OSX device.
Connect to HVC-BYOD using your network username and password.
Install the certificate in your web browser
Internet Explorer / Edge (For Edge Browser, use the Internet Explorer method)
- Download the certificate
- In the Menu Bar, click Tools > Internet Options to display the Internet Options window.
- Switch to the Content tab and, under the Certificates section, click Certificates to display the Certificates Window.
- Switch to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tab and click the Import button to start Certificate Import Wizard.
- Import the Certificate downloaded in step 1 using this wizard.
- Click Next
- Select Place all certificates in the following store
- Click Next
- Click Finish
- Click Yes to the security warning
- Click OK
Firefox
- Download the certificate
- In the Menu Bar, click Tools > Options to display the Options window.
- Switch to the Privacy and Security tab
- Scroll down and click the View Certificates to display the Certificate Manager window.
- Switch to the Authorities tab and click Import.
- Select the Certificate downloaded in step 1 and click Open.
- In the Downloading Certificate window, select Trust this CA to identify web sites and click OK.
- Click OK
Google Chrome
- Download the certificate
- To the right of the Address Bar, click on Customize and control Google Chrome button and click Settings.
- Click Show advanced settings and scroll down to HTTPS/SSL.
- Click Manage Certificates… to display the Certificates window.
- Switch to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tab and click the Import button to start Certificate Import Wizard.
- Import the Certificate downloaded in step 1 using this wizard.
- Click Next
- Select Place all certificates in the following store
- Click Next
- Click Finish
- Click Yes to the security warning
- Click OK
Safari
- Download the SSL CA Certificate as shown in step 1.
- Once downloaded, double-click the Certificate. This launches Keychain Access and displays a Certificate Not Trusted warning.
- Click Always Trust to import the certificate into Login Keychain.

How to trust the Root Certificate
The following instructions are for iOS 10.3, if your version is different please check the documentation to see where these settings are.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Go to General and then click on About.
Select Certificate Trust Settings.
Additional Steps required for Android
To connect to the BYOD WiFi at Hope Valley College.
These steps were tested on a Samsung phone running Android Version 8.
Settings > Turn on the WiFi and select HVC-BYOD
2) Change the settings to the following and select CONNECT.
EAP Method: PEAP
Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
CA Certificate: Don’t Validate
Identity: Your network username
Password: Your network password
3) Download SSL Certificate here
4) When prompted, enter and select the following:
5) You should now be connected to the HVC-BYOD WiFi
However, the following additional steps might be required depending on your Andriod version.
Browse to Settings > Biometrics and Security
Scroll to Other Security Settings
Select Install from device storage
Browse to the storage folder where you downloaded the SSL certificate and select it and press DONE
When prompted, enter and select the following and select OK:
Certificate Name: hvc
Credential Use: VPN and apps
You should now be connected to the HVC-BYOD WiFi.
How to connect to the college Wi-Fi using Windows
Turn on the wifi and select the HVC-BYOD broadcast wifi
Click Connect
Enter your network username and password and click OK
You should now be connected to the HVC-BYOD wifi.
