Join our School (Years 7 to 11)
Message from our Principal, Mrs Gaynor Jones
We have loved meeting Year 6 students and their parents and carers as they have joined us to look around Hope Valley College. I hope that they now have a better understanding of all that our school community has to offer.
We are especially proud of:
Great Lessons, Great Results
We have a strong track record. In 2019 our students achieved the third best GCSE results in Derbyshire for non-selective schools. Our Progress 8 score is above the national average. Our talented and committed teachers are continually developing their skills and subject knowledge, to ensure that lessons are engaging and inspirational. We continually assess our students’ understanding before and after lessons, so we can adjust our teaching to meet their needs.
BEING PART OF CHORUS EDUCATION TRUST
In 2019, Hope Valley officially joined Chorus Education Trust, a small multi-academy trust that was founded by Silverdale School, an Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ secondary in Sheffield.
We chose them because their ethos chimes with ours. Like us, they are deeply ambitious for our students and do not believe in the ‘one size fits all’ approach of some trusts.
By joining them we gain extra resources and expertise. Already they have brought in additional staff to support our English and Maths departments, to allow them to develop even further. And the college site is benefiting from a rolling programme of refurbishment and IT investment.
As part of Chorus, our students also get priority access into Silverdale Sixth Form – which regularly achieves the highest A-level results in Sheffield. There is a clear path for students who want to excel and achieve at the highest level.
We are proud that, at a time when some schools have had to narrow their offer, we have been able to retain a broad and balanced curriculum. We value the arts and humanities just as much as science and languages.
We believe this broad curriculum prepares students for life and opens doors to a wide range of professions and opportunities.
Our staff are passionate about providing students with unique experiences that broaden their horizons. School life extends beyond the classroom, with a wide range of clubs and trips.
We also have regular inter-house sports competitions and regular school musicals and productions that attract audiences from far and wide.
A STUNNING LOCATION
Our location mean we offer a very different kind of secondary school life. The college is surrounded by Derbyshire countryside – and we take full advantage of this, with lots of outdoor activities.
We have families who travel from the edges of both Greater Manchester and Sheffield to get to us, as well numerous places in between. So we can advise on transport options or support you to create your own, as some parents have done.
EVERYONE KNOWN BY NAME
We are small enough for every student to be known by name, so there is a real sense of a school 'family'. At our heart is a culture where everyone feels safe and supported, with a team of staff whose sole responsibility is the welfare and wellbeing of our students.
We feel that, if you are ambitious for your child and want them to achieve beyond expectations – but want that to happen in a supportive school where everyone is known by name – then this is the school for you.
The application deadline, by which you need to have applied for your child’s secondary school place, is 31 October 2021. Applications should be made via the Derbyshire County Council website at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/education/schools/school-places/apply-for-a-school-place.aspx.
