Headteacher's Update 21 November 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

This week has definitely felt chilly, but the cold weather always seems to show the Peak District at its best. It has been lovely to welcome young people back to school this week after their illnesses as it is a nice atmosphere when school is full. We would like to wish our Year 11s good luck for their mock exams over the coming weeks – they have been working hard in preparation for this.

Last night we said a final goodbye to the Class of 25 at their awards presentation evening. After a buffet and collection of GCSE certificates, awards were presented to worthy winners. It is always a poignant moment as we reflect on their successes. This newsletter contains many success stories of our talented young people, and we value hearing about what young people do outside of school.

Once mock exams are completed, we begin the final run into Christmas and many of the events that we undertake are shared at the end of the email - we look forward to seeing you at some of these.

What’s going on in school:

  • Thank you to everyone who donated to our non-uniform day in aid of Children in Need. As a school, we raised over £335.
  • Thank you to everyone who supported the book fair in school last week. We sold lots and lots of books and now have over £220 in the Scholastic bank which we will use for free books for the library.
  • Jem in Y7 has got through to the National Finals of the BMC Youth Climbing competition. He came 2nd in the U13s for the Midlands and will be heading to the Big Depot in Manchester in a few weeks to represent the Midlands, one of the youngest in his category. Well done Jem!
  • Well done to Charlie in Y9, who has been awarded ‘most improved rider’ by his Manchester BMX club. Charlie has been training hard this year and committing to competitions and improving. He has had a successful season competing nationally.
  • Amelie (Y8), Lucas (Y11) and Emily (Y8) are busy rehearsing for the Eyam Pantomime in January.

Y10 Maths Assessment

On the 2 and 3 December Y10 will be doing a non-calculator assessment.  It will be the first time they have experienced a GCSE paper.  It will be split into two 45-minute papers that will take place during their normal maths lesson.

Y11 Mock Exams

The Y11 mock exams will run from Monday 24 November to Thursday 4 December. Please see the link to the timetable here Hope Valley College - Examinations. Students have now been handed their statement of entry, and this has also been emailed to them. Please remind your young person to bring the correct equipment to each exam as we only have a small amount of spares to lend out to students. Exam pencil cases can be purchased from Parentpay and collected from Reception.

Derbyshire County Council Household Support Fund

As part of the Government’s Household Support Fund Scheme, Derbyshire County Council is distributing funding to households struggling to pay for food, energy, and essential living costs. As part of the scheme, the Council will again be distributing grocery vouchers. Information about who is eligible for the vouchers is available on the website and distribution will start in mid-January 26. We will update the website when all vouchers have been distributed and provide details of what parents and carers should do if they have not received their voucher. Full details about the scheme and the support available for those experiencing financial hardship is available on our website at Household Support Fund - Derbyshire County Council
