  • Headteacher's Update 5 December 2025

    Dear Parents and Carers

We would like to say a huge well done to our Year 11s who finished 2 weeks of intense mock exams yesterday. Their conduct in the exams has been exemplary and the invigilators who supported them were full of praise for them.

Over the next two weeks the focus turns to our festive activities and 2 wonderful evenings of music and entertainment in our Festive Showcase and Carol Service at St Peter’s Church. The Festive showcase is supported by our wonderful PTFA who are looking for new members and would like to invite interested parties to talk with them on that night about how they support school.

We look forward to seeing our young people in school as much as possible over the next two weeks. They will be working on their preparation for the Christmas Bazaar on the last day of school, where we raise money for charity and we await the decision from the student council about the charities they have decided to support.

    What’s going on in school?

    • Well done to students who have been selected to represent school in our newly formed Student Council. Following a democratic process, students had to apply and then be voted in for a position on the council. The first meeting was held on Thursday and a number of different topics were discussed including which charities to support with our upcoming Christmas Bazaar – the decision will be revealed soon!

    • Our giant drawing of the library and its inhabitants to mark National Illustration Day is complete! A photo of the finished picture was sent to the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration which launched National Illustration Day in 2023 "to celebrate the pictures that are part of our lives and the brilliant people who make them". Their feedback was ‘This is absolutely brilliant stuff! Thank you for sharing this and so glad to hear you all had a lovely time celebrating illustration!’

    • Five of our Sports Leaders entered the festive spirit today whilst helping with KS1 students as part of the HVC Primary Dance Event. The younger students loved having a chance to dance around with tinsel, snowflakes and giant candy canes!

    Christmas Dinner and Non-uniform Days

Our Catering Team will be serving Christmas Dinner on Thursday 18 December. Main course and a pudding will be priced as a Meal Deal at £3 per person. There will be a small selection of Grab and Go lunch items available for those not wanting Christmas Dinner, or your young person may wish to bring a packed lunch that day. Both Thursday 18 and Friday 19 December will be non-uniform days with optional Christmas jumpers.

Hope Seniors Xmas Party (Y7 choir) - Tuesday 9 December

All students taking part in the Y7 choir should go for an early lunch at 12:30pm, then go straight to music to be registered and ready to leave at 1:00pm. We will return to school before the end of the day. Please wear school uniform and if you are able, bring festive jumpers and/or accessories.

Carol Concert (Y7 Choir) - Thursday 11 December

All students taking part should meet in music to be registered at 1:25pm. We will then walk to the church and rehearse all afternoon, before returning to HVC. Remember to bring a packed tea as we will eat this at HVC on our return. We will then walk back to the church ready to start the Carol Concert at 6pm. Everybody is welcome to attend this festive, fun and free event!

Festive Showcase - Wednesday 10 December

There are still a limited number of tickets for our annual Festive Showcase and these are available on ParentPay. As usual, we have a variety of acts performing, including Big Band, Wind Band, Flute Ensemble, HVC Choir, Soloists, Drama, Comperes and a DJ! Our young people have worked incredibly hard for this show and would really appreciate the support! All sound, lighting & backstage will be led by our amazing young people. If your young person is performing on Wednesday, please remind them to bring their outfit, make up, sparkles and packed tea. We expect all our young people to remain in school and they should go straight to the hall at 3:30pm for a quick briefing.

Outdoor Activities for Y9 - new activity - Orienteering Longshaw Estate

Well done to everyone for completing their mountain biking outdoor activities sessions. It was a pleasure to see students jumping, hopping and speeding around the MUGA and pump track. It was also inspiring to watch students overcome nerves, demonstrating resilience and supporting one another in an activity that was quite challenging to some students. Really well done! We are now rotating onto our second activity of the Outdoor Activities Programme - Orienteering at Longshaw. Please see the equipment list below:

    Warm coat

    Gloves

Outdoor trainers or walking boots that can get muddy

    Water bottle

    PHONE fully charged

    Lockers

As a reminder we do have lockers available in school for students to store coats, bags, and other items securely. These are available to all year groups and are rented directly from a company called Secure Locker Rentals. The cost for the academic year is £22.95 and they can be booked using this link: Locker Rental The lockers are accessed using a combination lock, once you have booked one a unique 4-digit pin is sent to you directly via email or text message.
