Headteacher's Update 23 January 2026

Dear Parents and Carers
This week’s email details some amazing achievements from our student body. I am always in awe of our young people who complete a full day at school and then head off to a training session for a sport. It shows a real high level of determination and commitment. It is also lovely to see the wide range of activities that our students are involved in; farming club, local pantomimes and other events outside of school. There is also a lot going on in school at the moment and some details are shared about these upcoming activities.
What’s going on in school?
- James in Y7 competed for the City of Sheffield Diving Club at the North East Age Group Qualifiers on Sunday, winning gold on the 1 and 3 metre springboards, making him the current North East and Yorkshire champion for his age category. Fantastic!!

- Our cross-country team did exceptionally well at the county championships last week and finished middle of the pack amongst a highly competitive field in very damp conditions! Well done to all involved.
- Barnaby in Y11 is celebrating being awarded a place at Loughborough College on their rugby programme where he will study a BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science alongside receiving professional rugby coaching. The programme is run in collaboration with professional premiership rugby union club, Leicester Tigers. and is designed for aspiring professional rugby union players with fixtures arranged in the National ACE League.
- Well done to all students who took part in the Eyam pantomime last week, after rehearsing for the last 5 months.
- Our Farming Club meets at lunchtime every Tuesday, run by colleagues from the Farming Life Centre. Over the next few months, they will be running sessions on a variety of topics, involving speakers from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, Altavis Agricultural Drones and the Derbyshire Rural Crime Team. Any students interested in joining the club should speak to Mr Beeden.
Holocaust Workshop for Year 9
On Wednesday 4 February, Year 9 students will hear testimony from a second-generation Holocaust survivor, Tim Mulroy, as part of a visit organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET). Tim is the son of Holocaust survivor, Hans Kohn (later to be John Mulroy). Tim was a principal lecturer for Sheffield Hallam University in Electronic Engineering. Tim grew up knowing that his father and aunt came to the UK from Czechoslovakia as refugees just before the outbreak of war. The testimony will be followed by a question-and-answer session to enable students to better understand the nature of the Holocaust and to explore its lessons in more depth. This is not only to support our History curriculum but also supports the teaching of British values such as tolerance, individual liberty and mutual respect.
KS3 Annual Cross Country Event
During the week commencing 2 February, students will take part in the annual HVC cross country event. This will take place in regular PE lessons, during the fitness lesson. This is a once-a-year challenge for all KS3 students. The distance is between 2-3km. Students may wear any comfortable, weather appropriate running clothing for this event – PE kit or otherwise is acceptable. Headphones / music / phones are not permitted.
Request from the Design Faculty
Our Design Faculty would be grateful for donations of polyester cushions and duvets (clean and in good condition please!!). We use this for stuffing cushions and soft toys that the students make in lessons. Please bring any donations to reception. Thank you.
