  • Headteacher's Update 15 May 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers

The first full week of exams is completed, and it appears that the exams have so far been kind. Year 10 have fully recovered from their Duke of Edinburgh expedition which appeared to involve all 4 seasons in the one weekend.  Further information is contained below about lots of other activities that our young people are taking part in. We would also like to encourage you to attend our PTFA event as we need new volunteers. Continuing to have a PTFA is an important part of school but it does need the support of our wider community.

Next week is attendance week where students will look over their attendance and talk this through with their tutors.  Our challenges with attendance continue, we ask you to support your young person to come school as often as possible.

Open Evening for current Y5 students

Our Open Evening will take place on Thursday 24 September – this is aimed at current Y5 students, who will join us in Year 7 in September 2027. Please share this date with friends and family who may have a young person in Y5. To book a place please use the following link: https://HopeValleyOpenEve2026.eventbrite.co.uk

    What’s going on in school?

    • Well done to our Y10 Duke of Edinburgh participants, who completed their final expedition last weekend. They all did brilliantly! Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who gave up their time to make sure the weekend went smoothly.
    • On the back of their successful debut show, ‘Faithful – the Musical’, The Hope Valley Youth Theatre Company are back this summer with ‘Race Across the Channel – The Musical’. This group of HVC students write, direct and perform their own material and there are 3 opportunities to see their new show in July. Tickets are available by scanning the QR code below.

Year 8 Subject Evening – Tuesday 19 May

The Year 8 Subject Evening will take place in school on Tuesday 19 May. This is an opportunity to talk to teachers about progress, attainment and attitudes to learning. Details about how to book appointments have been shared with parents and carers.

    Year 10 English

Over the coming weeks, all Year 10 students will plan, write and deliver a spoken language presentation in their English language lessons. Please support your young person by discussing their chosen topic and helping them to practise their speech at home, so that they are well prepared. We recognise that some students find delivering a presentation daunting; however, this assessment is an essential part of developing literacy skills and preparing students for life beyond the classroom. Students will receive a certificate from AQA alongside their examination results, showing a grade of Distinction, Merit, Pass or Fail. This endorsement does not affect the GCSE English Language grade, as it is a separate component.

Please be reassured that we work closely with our SEND and Pastoral Teams to ensure individual needs are met during the assessment process. Your young person will only be considered for alternative arrangements if this is an identified need recorded on their learning passport.

The assessment will be conducted in line with JCQ guidelines and AQA English Language Spoken Language Endorsement guidance. Thank you for your continued support.

    PTFA Meeting – Tuesday 9 June 2026

Our PTFA are meeting in school on Tuesday 9 June 2026 from 6pm – 7pm. They are still looking for willing volunteers to join the team and take on roles next academic year to ensure it continues. Our PTFA provides school with valuable funds and this year their target is to raise £25,000 to improve our sports facilities and equipment. If you are interested, please pop along and meet the team and find out more about them.

    Y11 Students

Please could we politely request that school meal accounts are kept in credit as we approach the final few weeks of Y11 students being in school. Can you also ensure that any school library books are returned to the library or to reception before their last day.

    Clarinet and saxophone Lessons

There are currently spaces for students to learn clarinet and saxophone in school with Jane Taylor, our peripatetic teacher. If your young person would like to have a free trial lesson, please contact Jane directly.
