  • Headteacher's Update 9 October 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers

As you can see below this week has been a busy week for some of our GCSE students. We are always really proud of how well our young people achieve in the arts and we are also able to celebrate the award gained by our music department for their high-quality teaching and support for young people. We met with Year 7 parents and carers last night to formally end transition into Year 7 and celebrate the fantastic start they have made at Hope Valley College.

As we move towards the end of this term, I would like to highlight the upcoming mock exams for Year 11. Staff are working with them so that they can develop good habits working independently at home as we know that good revision has an impact on attainment and outcomes.

We are continuing to remind young people about the need to be in correct uniform and about good attendance and we ask for your on-going support in this.

    What’s going on in school?

    • GCSE Art and Art Textiles students travelled to North Wales last weekend for an intensive Art course at the Conway Centre. Students took part in several different workshops, including portraiture, patterns and textiles. They produced some incredible work over the weekend, and this can be counted towards their GCSE coursework. Thank you to Miss Nicklin, Mrs Whitehall and Mr Rasool for leading this trip and giving our students this fantastic experience.

    • We are excited to announce that we have won the Music Mark of Recognition for Ambition and Quality from the Derby and Derbyshire Music Partnership.

    • Year 8 took part in our Interhouse sports competition this week, which involved football and netball matches between our 4 different houses. Well done to all who took part.

Non-uniform Day ‘Show Racism the Red Card’– Friday 16 October

As part of the on-going work we do through our assembly programme and PSHE curriculum, we are holding a non-uniform / wear red day in recognition of the national ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ day. Assemblies have been held with all young people talking about the British value of tolerance. This work will be continued through our PSHE programme throughout the year, as well as work within departments.

    Y11 Subject Evening – Tuesday 20 October

The Year 11 subject evening will take place in school on Tuesday 20 October. This is an opportunity to talk to teachers about progress, attainment and attitudes to learning. Bookings open on Tuesday 13 October at 5pm. Details about how to book appointments have been shared with parents.

    Year 11 Mock Exams

The Y11 written mock exams are being held from Monday 16 November - Thursday 26 November. Please see the link to the timetable here Exams at Hope Valley College. Students will be handed their statement of entry nearer the time which gives room and seating details. Exam pencil cases can be purchased via Parentpay and collected from Reception.

    Lost Property

We have a large amount of lost property currently in reception, with many unnamed items. Could we remind you to label items of clothing with student names so that we can reunite lost items with their owners. Many thanks.
