Start of Term Arrangements and On-Site Covid Testing

Published on 21/12/21

In line with Government guidance, we are preparing to test our students on site upon their return in January. Subject to consent, all students will be offered one test over the first two days of term.

In order to facilitate this, the return to school will be staggered as follows:

  • Monday 10 January 2022 – Y11, Y10 and Y9 only
  • Tuesday 11 January 2022 – Y8 and Y7 return – all years in school.

As before, the testing will be set up in the school gym and students will be brought down in their year groups. Those who wish to participate in taking the test will be supervised and given guidance by trained staff and volunteers.

Testing will be conducted using a Lateral Flow Test called the Orient Gene. The test is quick and easy to undertake, using a swab of the nose only. When entering the gym, students will be directed to a booth where a member of staff will talk them through the process. Once completed, students will return to their normal timetable for that day.

Results (which take around 15 minutes from testing) will be shared directly with the individual participant and where participants are under 16, parents or legal guardians will also be informed.

If any student tests positive their household will then be required to follow current isolation and testing guidance.

All students have been given sufficient lateral flow tests to take home for use over the Christmas holidays– please can we politely ask all students to take a test the day before they return to school in line with current guidelines.

What if my child has had Covid-19 within the last 90 days?

The DfE have confirmed that students that have tested positive for Covid-19 within the last 90 days are still encouraged to take part in asymptomatic testing and should do a lateral flow test upon their return to school in January 2022.

Anyone who develops new symptoms within this time frame should book a PCR test.

What if my child has COVID symptoms on the day they due back into school?

No-one with COVID symptoms should come to school without first having taken a PCR test and having a received a negative result.

Will my child still need to take tests at home?
Following the test on site, students should continue to test in line with government guidelines which is currently testing at home, twice weekly.

If anyone has any further questions or wants to discuss your child’s specific circumstances, please contact school on 01433 620555 and we will do our best to assist.
