Last Friday we enjoyed our second LEAD day of the academic year, with each year involved in different activities. Year 7 went to the National Arboretum for the day, whilst Year 9 were also off site, visiting the National Football Museum in Manchester. Year 8 completed Enterprise based activities in school, including a session called ‘The Trading Game’. Year 10 took part in a session called ‘What is (Hu)man?’ followed by sessions from our local PCSOs.

What’s going on in school:

• A huge thank you to our PTFA, Mrs Machan and everyone involved in the Music & Mayhem event last Saturday. It was wonderful to see so many people here and a delight to hear our talented musicians playing.

• Nat in Y10 recently took part in a workshop at Buxton Opera House and was cast as ‘Dodger’ and will perform at the 120^th Anniversary concert. He is also performing in ‘Risk’ at both the Buxton Fringe Festival and International Youth Theatre Week. He is currently enrolled in a 10 week acting course in Manchester, which includes mock auditions in front of industry professionals.

• On Monday our language students opened and read the latest pack of letters from their French pen pals. Some of our KS3 students are writing to students in Pertuis, in the south of France. They are finding out what their pen pals like doing in their free time, and about each other’s families. It's a great way to practice what we've learned in lessons, and to make new friends abroad.
• Today we celebrated Diversity in school with a colourful non-uniform day for Pride day. Students attended a Diversity Party in the library at lunchtime. All donations received will go towards diversity and anti-bullying charities.
• We welcomed Y5 students from our local primary schools to HVC on Wednesday and Thursday this week for STEM days. They spent their morning in our Design Faculty, producing some amazing things, then spent the afternoon in the Science Department with some exciting experiments.

 

• New for the summer term, students have been attending athletics club with our PE department – participation has been great!

Exam Pencil Cases

KS4 students need exam pencil cases for any exams they take, including mock exams. Exam pencil cases are available to buy from reception – they can be paid for in advance using Parentpay, then collected from Reception by students. Alternatively, they can be paid for in cash at Reception.

Year 11 Students

Please ensure any dinner money owed is paid and library books borrowed are returned to school as soon as possible. In order for all of our students to continue to enjoy the school library, we may have to charge the full RRP to replace any books which are not returned.

PTFA volunteer request

Our PTFA are hosting the Water Aid Mountain Challenge Event here at HVC on Saturday 8 July and need volunteers to help. They need help during the following slots:

7am – 10am - 1 person – serving breakfast

4pm – 7pm – 2 people – serving meals and drinks

7pm – 10pm – 3 people – serving meals and drinks
